hello hello! this time i am here to recommend a book :D
Iron Council by China
Miéville!! Well this is a complete spoiler, but i suppose it will serve very well as a reference for anyone who wants or needs to do a book review on it. See. It's sooo good i want to voluntarily do a short review. WOW. and since when have i done such things? never mann. i dont read books, that's one thing. So maybe this wont be so accurate afterall... hahahahhaaa nvm. i am crapping arnd. read on.

Iron Council
The setting is in the steam-age of the European revolution probably, although it wasn't stated. It may be possible that this is in the future. There is a diverse range of monsters and creatures in this book and the following, all sincerely and quoted from 'Iron Council' (shall do APA citation later... or i will get sued) introduces them...

Vodyanoi water bandits: These guys tried to rob Cutter on board the Akif, a boat which he and his comrades tried to steal. (haha. robber robbing the robber woots!)

Remade (for the Remade outlaws: fReemade): Criminals or simply innocent people terrorized by corruption who had their bodies remade with animal or machine parts in punishment factories. The imagery which Miéville uses is remarkable, although gruesome, "A man - or is it a woman? - whose flesh moves with tides, with eructations like an octopus. People with their faces relocated, bodies made of iron and rubber cables, and steam-engine arms, and animal arms, and arms that are body-length pistons on which the Remade walk, their legs replaced with monkey's paws so they reach out from below their own waists." Sweet. :)

Monks (who have lots of power XD): Monks who are of different Moments, or rather, sects which possess different powers. Such Moments include the Moment of Calculation, the Moment of Forgotten Snow and of Memory, and of course, the coolest of all, the Moment of the Hidden and Lost. These monks are able to do extraordinary things, like the following: "The price of the Moment's protection was something made lost, something hidden from the devotee, given to Vogu. 'I know monks who lost their eyes.......when i submitted to Vogu it was my sex went hidden." Cool huh!!!

Militia of the New Crobuzon: The brutal and merciless army of the New Crobuzon who pledge that they are on a holy mission, nonetheless excuses. They kill and spare no one. "I have no plans for yon stiltspear, but if their way intersects with mine then yes, my way will crush them down." BRUTAL. i hate you mann. i really do.

Not forgetting... the dead and the half-dead people!!
"Planted scarecrow in the middle was a degraded corpse. A human man. He was naked, slumped, upheld by spikes that pinned him to a tree. Javelins pierced him. One emerged point-first from his sternum. It had been forced up his anus and through him. His scrotum was torn off. There was a scab of blood on his throat. He was leathered by sun and insects worked on him." way too cool man. wayyy too cool imagery.

there you have it!
Miéville , China (2004). Iron Council. London: Pan Books.

the main character is this good ol' dude called Judah Low, a mage or golemnist, if you prefer... can make a golem out of sound, air, smoke, dust, dirt, oil. Basically everything that is matter and non-living. The concepts behind it are quite cool haha! Well the main thing to this book is that you need a good deal of imagination to read this book, because the imagery is pure awesome mann... it's almost like watching a movie haha! see yaa :D saturday's ACSI STOMP!
