"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players."

My my, isn't this just an apt description of the people around us?

Most of us have to put on masks for every moment of our lives and the reasons vary from person to person. Some do because they need to, in order to get something that they desire; others do it because they do not want to show their true feelings about something, so that they can preserve relationships; some do simply because they know that everyone else around them is doing the same thing. Well, I am guilty of it too. For instance, it really helps sometimes if you could just be a little blinder to the faults of your friends.

On the other hand, this is exactly what makes the people who do not have masks special. They live by their principles, and they do get cheated in their lives rather frequently due to this. Yet they are to be admired, when at the end of their lives, they daresay that they have lived a rich and full life, one that they can be proud of. And this is exactly when the other people will feel totally empty; because at the end of the road, they found that they have gotten nothing but loneliness. They lived the life of someone else, not their own.

This sounds pretty simple, doesn't it? But there are many implications to this, really. As a person, the mask you put on destroys your soul; in the end, you might not even know who you really are anymore. You deny your mistakes because you do not want to be embarrassed. These people exchange bits of their soul for that short moment, so that they will appear to be strong, when they are in fact the weakest of people on the inside.

And then, people bottle up their feelings, hiding a massive amount of hatred behind that mask, until one day, the mask cracks under pressure and all hell lets loose. From here you get all the terms like gossiping, talking behind one's back, blah blah. It's unhealthy.

I love to agree with this thing that I saw in Jason Mraz's album, "
In the world I'm building......people have speakers attached to their chests that pour out music so you can tell from a distance what mood they're in"

It's a pretty ridiculous statement, but it does reflect how fake everyone is nowadays and how difficult it is to tell how someone is really feeling. And nono, nothing really happened to me that made me write this post, i'm just being random ^^

why pretend to be someone you are not?
